Southeastern Hummer Club Meeting

On Saturday, we held our first official SE Hummer Club meeting at Kascar's, in Greenville, SC.

Well, we finally did it. We have finally kicked off our first club meeting and got a chance to meet everyone involved with getting this club started, participating in another great trail ride, and developing a list of 2004 events. December 6th started out with introductions, a review of our trail rules, and a technical discussion including trail equipment and pre-trail checks to ensure everyone's experience is enjoyable. Thanks to Dennis Marion for making his truck available to actually demonstrate what needs to be checked for each trail ride. After the meeting, 4 Hummers and one Jeep caravanned to a restaurant for a nice lunch prior to hitting the Beaver Dam trail.

The trail ride started with providing some assistance to a stranded off-roader. This experience really demonstrated the importance of always riding with another and emphasized the need to frequently check for the person behind you so as to not leave someone behind. Additionally, we demonstrated why it is important to always have something like a blanket to strap over the cable. In this case, the vehicle being towed out of a mud bog hooked up to a bumper mounted hitch which was torn free as the tow vehicle was pulling. Having the strap over the cable kept the cable from flying back and hitting someone or the tow vehicle.

The trail was a little slick due to the melting of morning frost, this made for interesting hill climbs. Our new members got a chance to experience the use of their TT-4 and CTIS. The trail included some fun challenges such a mud for the mud lovers, washouts or ravines for those that like to crawl or climb through obstacles. In my case, I had to winch myself free from one ravine that I miss judged (it's rough being the lead vehicle). This trail typically leaves everyone with a feeling that we accomplished something, especially near the end when everyone has to work their way down a heavily washed out road with very deep ravines.

Stay tuned for more opportunities in the very near future.

Thanks,

Don Crowl
